Texas elector Art Sisneros quits his job because he does not want to vote for Donald Trump on December 19, and he has published several blog posts to explain his decision. The Republican elector first revealed in August that he was thinking about becoming a faithless elector, a member of the Electoral College, who does not back the presidential ticket that they had pledged to support.
Sisneros is now pushing things a bit further. The Texan believes that the Electoral College system is corrupted and voting for the business mogul from New York would be an act against God. On Saturday, the man wrote a lengthy post on his website where he stated that his faith would not allow him to support Trump.
He shared:
“Since I can’t in good conscience vote for Donald Trump, and yet have sinfully made a pledge that I would, the best option I see at this time is to resign my position as an elector. This will allow the remaining body of electors to fill my vacancy when they convene on Dec. 19 with someone that can vote for Trump.”
Sisneros also added:
“I do not see how Donald Trump is biblically qualified to serve in the office of the Presidency. Of the hundreds of angry messages that I have received, not one has made a convincing case from scripture otherwise. If Trump is not qualified and my role, both morally and historically, as an elected official is to vote my conscience, then I can not and will not vote for Donald Trump for President. I believe voting for Trump would bring dishonor to God.”
Online commenters were not kind with the rebellious elector. Trump supporters blasted him for acting in a hypocritical way and accepting a job that required to do things against his religious beliefs. A few people did applaud him for taking a stance against a demagogue, who represents a danger to the world order.
