Myron Faith Bowie, a man from Chicago, has Wisconsin authorities on edge. Deputies say that he set his girlfriend on fire after a huge argument.
Local officials claim that he had threatened to kill her and her children. Moreover, he allegedly said that he would also go after her entire family.
Myron Faith Bowie set girlfriend on fire: cops
On Sunday at 4:47 a.m., police and the fire department in the village of Salem Lakes were called to a house in the 24500 block of 86th Place. The girlfriend is the person who made the call.
According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, the unidentified victim is still in critical condition after what happened. Deputies said in a statement: “The victim was transported to an area hospital with severe burns.”
When the cops arrived, the woman told them, “(He) threw something on me and set me on fire.”
The 33-year-old victim was taken to the Flight for Life at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Regional Burn Center in Milwaukee. She was lying in bed when the incident occurred.
She has burns on her upper arms, face, and head. Moreover, they are quite severe. Authorities say that the patterns of the burns would indicate that a flammable liquid was used.
Court documents reveal that 13% of the victim’s body suffered second-or third-degree burns. Health professionals had to sedate and intubate her.
Bowie is still on the run
The suspect fled in a black Cadillac SRX after setting the woman on fire. He has an Illinois license plate (DQ46996). Authorities are asking people in Kenosha, Milwaukee, and the greater Chicago area for help. Moreover, there is a manhunt underway, and Bowie is considered armed and dangerous.
They explained: “Myron has been known to stay in the Chicago area, Logan Square, and Wicker Park. Myron is a Black male in his mid-30s, about 6 feet tall and approximately 200 pounds.”
Myron Faith Bowie, 36, has been charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide. The charge carries a penalty of up to 60 years in prison in the state of Wisconsin.
The woman indicated the reason for the argument. It had to do with her cousin. Moreover, she has also said that this was not the first time he burned her. However, the previous times the burns were superficial.
Neighbors call the victim a good mother
Neighbors say they really did not expect something like this in the area. Moreover, they describe the victim as a good mother who had just landed a new job.
One of them, Ricky Matthews, told local media: “Mind-blowing. Like wow. I didn’t expect it. She’s just got to stay prayed up with her family. They’ve got to be with her. Because that’s what it took to get me through it.”
Another person, Donna Kiser, added: “My kids are all grown. Most of my grandkids are grown. I have greats now. And that’s what I worry about is the greats coming up. Those little ones coming up in a world that is so completely different.”
There were four children in the home when authorities showed up, including a 13-year-old girl who gave additional details about the incident.
She told them they were coming from a family gathering when Myron Faith Bowie allegedly “told the children he was going to kill all of them.” Moreover, the children say that he was driving fast and in an erratic manner.
Minutes later, he was in the residence, and he went directly to the mother’s room, where an argument ensued. At some point, he went downstairs to pick up something.
Man tells their children “sorry”
According to the teenager, after his return to the room, he hit the mother. The victim started screaming, and the kids heard the fire alarms go off.
The four children suggested to deputies that their father was the culprit. Moreover, authorities found Bowie’s ID and wallet inside the residence.
The complaint says that the suspect told the children that he was “sorry” and that they may never see him again.
Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Colin Coultrip said on Tuesday: “As for the suspect, he is still on the run. Our detectives are following several citizen tips in locating him and working with area agencies to bring the suspect into custody.”
