Aidan Kaminska, a 19-year-old student from the University of Massachusetts and football and lacrosse standout, has died.
Kaminska was a midfielder for UMass Amherst’s lacrosse team, the Minutemen. His family and the University have confirmed the death of the star athlete.
On Monday, May 30, Aidan Kaminska passed away at his family’s home in Port Jefferson, New York. The family did not reveal to the public the cause of the death of the teenager.
Aidan Kaminska died on Memorial Day
However, Aidan Kaminska’s obituary says he died unexpectedly on Memorial Day. Suffolk County Police has declined to provide information surrounding the teen’s death.
Aidan Kaminska’s funeral is scheduled for Friday, June 3, between the hours of 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
The people, who want to pay their respects and say a final goodbye, can do so at the Bryant Funeral Home, located at 411 Old Town Rd in East Setauket, New York.
According to his obituary, the famed lacrosse player is survived by his two parents, an older brother, grandparents, and multiple aunts and uncles. It also revealed this passion for sports started at a young age.
The obituary read: “He was born on August 13, 2002, in Stony Brook, NY, and was a lifelong resident of nearby Port Jefferson. Aidan was known for his infectious smile, being a good friend, and being a tremendous athlete. He started playing lacrosse at a young age as part of the newly-formed lacrosse program at Port Jefferson. He played on multiple travel lacrosse teams, most notably Legacy Lacrosse, of which he was a member of the championship team winning the World Series of Youth Lacrosse (WSYL) in 2016.”
Kaminska loved to laugh
The obituary notice that was shared on the university’s website also explained that the sophomore was a lover of life who loved to laugh.
He enjoyed spending time in nature and was an amateur chef who delighted his family with his healthy and thoughtful meals.
The family shared this with the public: “Aidan loved to be goofy and make people laugh. He loved baby animals, especially ducklings and bunnies. He enjoyed taking long walks in nature, and he worked out fiercely. He also enjoyed cooking, often sautéing fresh spinach and trying out new recipes. He likes to make homemade pickles with his mother. Aidan had numerous friends and was an inspiration to many. He will surely be missed.”
Aidan Kaminska excelled both on the field and in the classroom. He had just completed his sophomore year as a communications major.
His prowess as a brilliant student earned him the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll in 2021. Kaminska, who was called a tremendous athlete, won Rookie of the Week as a sophomore.
Aidan Kaminska led his team UMass to a surprising win over Hofstra University in late April and received praise as “an unlikely hero” from the University’s newspaper.
Aidan Kaminska attended Port Jefferson High School
Before enrolling at the University of Massachusetts, Aiden Kaminska attended and graduated from the Port Jefferson High School.
In high school, he also played football and lacrosse. The teenager holds the Long Island record for receptions in a high school football game.
Officials at Port Jefferson High School issued a statement offering Kaminska’s family and friends their sincere condolences during this difficult time.

Port Jefferson school superintendent Jessica Schmettan said in a letter to parents and staff: “The district was informed of the sudden passing of one of our alumni from the Class of 2020, Aidan Kaminska. Our thoughts and prayers are with the former student’s friends, family, and loved ones during this difficult time. I offer my deepest and most sincere condolences to the family, staff, and friends who suffered this great loss.”
People, who knew the young man, have praised him on social media.
