Rumors about the possible disappearance of Jesse Camp had been going around for a short while, but they had remained unconfirmed.
A few days ago though, police representatives had confirmed that the performer had been reported missing since on July 19, and authorities still had no information about his whereabouts.
Camp comes from a problematic past, rising to fame from crushing poverty and homelessness thanks to a lucky break in an MTV contest.
Since then, he became a prominent figure in the world of entertainment and had had an active presence on the screen.
Camp’s sister was the one to report the incident, claiming that she has been out of contact with him for about a week, starting around July 11.
Making the situation even stranger, a former girlfriend of Camp’s reportedly attempted to contact him through his cell phone, only to have a stranger pick up and tell her that Camp had given him the phone along with some of his possessions.
Oddly, police had not referred to this incident themselves, so it was not clear if it was true or a fabrication.
Some people say, it is possible that they were looking into the stranger as a possible person of interest, in which case they would likely be limited in their public comments on the investigation.
Meanwhile, attention towards the incident had been growing as more and more people were starting to question Camp’s disappearance.
Some were speculating that Camp was trying to avoid the public spotlight on his own accord, but until the media got some more information on the situation, that was just a guess.
On July 24, Riverside Police put out a statement explaining that they found Camp and that the investigation was over.
It read: “Josiah “Jesse” Camp is no longer considered missing. He was contacted by a local law enforcement agency a short time ago and not in need of any assistance. His family has been notified. No further information will be released.”
It is still unclear what led to the confusion.
