A tragic case of a python taking a person’s life shocked the inhabitants of a village on Muna Island in the Southeast Sulawesi Province of Indonesia.
This is the second time that a massive snake has killed somebody in over a year after the previous incident that took place in the adjacent province.
The victim of the giant reptile was the 54-year-old Wa Tiba, who disappeared after she went to see her vegetable garden that was only a short distance from her house on Thursday evening.
Apparently, the woman was worried that wild boars were harassing her corn plantation and went to check out the place.
Wa Tiba’s absence was noticed when it continued until the next morning. It was then when her sister decided to go searching for her.
After some of Wa Tiba’s belongings were found scattered on the ground, nearly 100 villagers were mobilized to look out for her.
What they later found nearby was an enormous python with a length of 23 feet. The reptile was situated just 150 feet away from the woman’s possessions and was so full that it could not move properly.
The villagers quickly killed the animal and cut its corpse. Inside the python’s belly, the body of the victim had not started decomposing yet and still had all of her clothes on.
It is believed the woman died before the snake could swallow her since pythons usually break the bones of their prey before they eat it.
The chief of the village explained that because of the location of Wa Tiba’s garden, it was densely populated with snakes since the area was quite rocky.
According to experts, it is rare for something like this to happen although fake images on the Web built a myth around the idea that humans get eaten in similar situations in places like China.
However, Indonesia has proven this year that it can still occur.
