A Pizza Hut worker kills a robber after he attempted to steal from the restaurant, and the story has sparked a lot of conversations online. According to North Carolina police, on Sunday Morning, at around 1:40 a.m, three masked and armed men walked into a Pizza Hut eatery in Charlotte.
The men attempted to rob the restaurant and an employee pulled out his personal gun and shot one of the would-be criminals. The robber was identified as 28-year-old Michael Grace by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.
The authorities said that he was carrying a weapon when he was shot. It has been confirmed that Grace was killed on the scene. The other two men fled on foot. Police have not yet been able to arrest them. There were no customers inside the restaurant during the time of the failed robbery.
The Pizza Hut employee has been put on a leave of absence as police investigate the matter. According to a statement issued by the company, he is cooperating with the authorities. The statement read:
“The local Pizza Hut franchise is fully cooperating with the Charlotte Police Department as they continue their investigation, but want to stress that the security of its staff is of utmost concern. They are providing support to the team members involved to ensure their health and well-being following this incident. The employee involved in the shooting has been placed on a leave of absence following further review.”
The Pizza Hut, which is located at 3215 Freedom Drive, was closed for the rest of the night. A customer spoke to local media saying that she was tired of the wave of robberies and other crimes in the area. She also stated that it is sad to see some people willing to risk their lives for a few bucks.
According to local media, there have been more than 100 crimes committed in the area in the past six months.
It is not known if the employee will face any charges. Pizza Hut’s corporate office had the following to say on their policy for an employee carrying a weapon: “It varies by franchise.”
